About Parvati Valley: Chilling nights under the bare star-lit sky on the foothills of snow-capped Himalayan peaks, lush green landscapes of the sometimes narrow and sometimes wide valley, splashing waters of the pristine Parvati river, fluffy white clouds mindlessly grazing the hilltops, endless views of thick sprawling coniferous forests, fascinating hot water springs offering cure for ailments – experience nature at its unbridled and whimsical best, in the dreamy and mysterious valley of legends - the Parvati Valley.

From the confluence of the Parvati river with river Beas just above Bhuntar, the valley stretches eastwards, in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh in Northern India. Departure from Delhi to Bhuntar

Duration - 12 Hours

Good times begin with the bus departure from Delhi in the evening, as you chat away the evening with your group into the night, that gets cooler as you inch closer to the Himalayas. And once you doze off, the hours fly away.

DAY 2

Bhuntar to Kasol

Duration - 1.5 Hours

The bus shall reach Bhuntar early in the morning,. Kasol is just 1.5 hours away from Bhuntar, and taxis & Govt. buses are easily available for the trip.

The day can be spent in exploring the breathtaking beauty of Kasol. Soak in the pure & fresh air, carrying a woody-minty aroma and the splendid view of the roaring Parvati river, with a backdrop of the Himalayan peaks. Enjoy a stroll on the long stretches of white sand along the banks of the Parvati river, and nature lovers would specially love the groves of apple trees spread throughout the area. Or visit local market and restaurants to enjoy local cuisines. As many foreign tourists especially the Israelis like to visit & stay at the adventure-friendly village of Kasol, restaurants here have started serving Israeli cuisines as well.

You can also visit the famous Manikaran Saheb - a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. The Hindus believe in the legend that Manu recreated human life in Manikaran after the flood, making it a sacred area. It has many temples of the Hindu deities Krishna, Rama and Vishnu and a gurudwara. The area is also famous for its hot springs offering natural cures for ailments, and its magnificent surrounding landscape.

There are several good options for camping, budget hotels and luxury hotels in Kasol. Make your pick, and stay overnight at Kasol.

Kasol to Kheerganga

Duration - 8 Hours

One hour drive from Kasol to Barshaini, from where the much-awaited guided trek to Kheerganga starts. Your hopes are never too high for this leg of the trip, as view after view leaves you spellbound and wondering at nature’s marvels. Take a dip in the natural springs, and every once in a while sit and relish the spectacular visions all around. The views from here are amazing and way better than the places at the lower altitudes. Sink yourself in nature as you trek along the valley of mist and bloom with turquoise streams flowing by.

Options for camping are available here. Overnight stay at Kheerganga.

Kheerganga to Tundabhuj (3200m)

Duration - 6 Hours

This trek to Tundabhuj is covered with trees of pine and is heavily wooded. Tundabhuj, located at an altitude of 3200 metres, is the upper limit for the pine forest and one of te most beautiful places of the Parvati Valley. There is an abundance of Bhuz(Birch)trees, high altitude fir, willow scrub and pure silver birch trees here.

Camp at the lush green campsite. Take ample rest to recharge yourself for the next day’s excursion.

Tundabhuj to Thakur Kund (3400m)

Duration - 6 Hours

The Tundabhuj to Thakur Kund trek is challenging, as it is steep and difficult in some sections close to Thakur kund, but has its own rewards. Situated at an altitude of 3400 metres, this area lies within the Kanawar wild life sanctuary, and therefore one may cross small Himalayan brown bears at the lower altitude and wild sheep or snow leopards at high altitude.

Enjoy the thrilly atmospherics with forest-covered mountain slopes around and the wild beings not too far, and an occasional hoot or cry from deep down the woods is just their way of saying a courteous ‘hello’ 😉 . Overnight camping at Thakur Kund.

Thakur kund to Pandu Pul (3700m)

Duration - 6 Hours

The Thakur kund to Pandu Pul is a little hard but spectacular trek towards the campsite. Located at an altitude of 3700 metres, Pandu Pul (bridge), a grassy campsite, has been named after some unique rock bridges which are said to have been built by Mahabharata’s Pandavas.

Relax yourself after the day’s strenuous trek, and enjoy the cool peaceful night, under the starry sky, & far far above the busy world. Overnight camping at Pandu Pul.

Pandu Pul to Mantalai Lake (4074m)

Duration - 6 Hours

Trek to Mantalai lake through the beautiful flower speckled grasslands begins next day. Mantalai, situated at an altitude of 4074 metres is the source of River Parvati and therefore, could also be called the source of beauty of the Parvati valley. There is an abundance of quartz and semi-precious gems around here, although picking up rock souvenirs from here is not allowed.

Mantalai to Base Camp 1 Pin Parvati Pass

Duration - 6 Hours

The next day, over the glacier and loose scree slopes, begins the challenging and adventurous trek from Mantalai Lake towards Base Camp 1. All along the trek you are greeted with breathtaking sights and surreal surroundings. And at the end of the trek, you reach a beautiful grassy campsite which is your final halt for the day. Inhale the pure air, soak in the sun and and relax your way into the night.

Base Camp 1 to Base Camp 2 Pin Parvati (5319 m)

Duration - 7 Hours

Thrill alert! Here comes the part that’ll bring out the adventure-junkie in you. This pass is difficult to trek and the slippery snow fields add to the difficulty level. Necessary precautions have to be taken in this section. Everybody shall be roped up as the crevasses may not be easily visible.

Later the pass descends over a steep scree slope to reach first camp in Pin valley.

Base Camp 2 to Ghurgul

Duration - 5 Hours

Next day begins with a short walk after crossing the challenging Pin Parvati pass. It is a very spectacular walk with changing landscapes and high snow-clad mountain peaks standing tall all around. You are sure to forget those aching muscles lost in nature’s mesmerizing beauty. Have your cameras ready for some awesome clicks here.

Ghurgul to Mud

Duration - 6 Hours

Today we go to the first village in Spiti – Mud, a village which is one of its kind, set a below a cliff and inhabited by simple folk of Tibetan origin. This is the last night of the trek.

Mud to Sagnam

Duration - 6 Hours

Trek from Mud to Sagnam - the largest village of the Pin Valley and the meeting point of the two rivers namely, Chandra and Bhaga, which join together to make river Chandrabhaga that flows towards Jammu and Kashmir. From Sagnam you shall be picked up by jeep to Kaza by surface transportation. Kaza, located at an altitude of 3800m by the river side, is the largest township of Spiti valley and houses a colorful Monastery.

Kaza to Manali (4551m)

Duration - 10 Hours

Next day begins with the drive from Kaza to Manali over the Kunzum pass. One of the highest motorable passes across the Kunzum range at an altitude of 4551 m., Kunzum Pass serves as an entrance pass to the Spiti valley from Lahaul. Goddess Kunjum (Durga/Parvati) resides in a temple on the Kunzum top and visitors normally do a round around the temples to seek blessings. While traveling through the pass one can also view the Bara-Sigri Glacier, the second largest Glacier in the world.
