Departure from Delhi to McLeodganj

Duration - 12 Hours

Good times begin with the bus departure from Delhi in the evening, as you chat away the evening with your group into the night, that gets cooler as you inch closer to the Himalayas. And once you doze off, the hours fly away.

The bus shall reach Dharamshala the next morning, from where buses/taxis are available for McLeodganj. It’s a half an hour drive.

Experience the Himalayan freshness entwined with rich cultural heritage at Mcleodganj. At an average elevation of 2,082 metres, it is situated on the Dhauladhar Range, whose highest peak, ‘Hanuman Ka Tibba’ (5,639 m), lies just behind it.

McLeod Ganj, a suburb of Dharamsala, is also known as ‘Little Lhasa’ or ‘Dhasa’ because of its large population of Tibetans. The Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered in McLeodganj.

You can indulge in some local sight-seeing on this day. The most important Buddhist site in the town and main focus of visiting pilgrims, monks and many tourists, is Tsuglagkhang - the Dalai Lama's temple. It has statues of Shakyamuni, Avalokiteśvara, and a statue of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). The complex also includes the excellent Tibet Museum and Namgyal Gompa, the monastery. Here you can watch the monks in lively debate in the courtyard in the afternoon daily (except Sunday), sealing points of argument with a foot stamp and theatrical clap of the hands. The Dalai Lama's residence is on the south side of the courtyard, and is not open to public.

McLeodganj to Triund Trek

Duration - 4 Hours

Next day, the 9 kms trek from McLeodganj to Triund - the crown jewel of Dharamshala - begins.

Triund is situated in the lap of Dhauladhar range, and has the spectacular view of the dhauladhar mountains on one side and Kangra valley on the other. One can look forward to enjoying the fresh, tranquil atmosphere and nature’s surreal beauty on the trek to Triund, which goes through a beautiful mixed forest of oak, deodar and rhododendron. Relish the mountain tea from the several tiny ‘chai shops’ dotting the trek. The journey is fairly easy for the first five kilometers but the last one kilometer is a bit taxing. This stretch is popularly known as the ‘22 curves’ as it has 22 tiring curves to cross, before you finally reach Triund. The panorama when you reach Triund is exhilarating & awe-inspiring, and the journey shall definitely feel worth it. Lose yourself in the Triund’s wonder, and enjoy and relax the rest of the day!

Triund to Dharamshala via McLeodganj

Duration - 5 Hours

Trek back to McLeodganj in the morning, from where taxi/cabs are available for Dharamsala. Explore Dharamshala on this day.

The word Dharamshala translated into English means ‘spiritual dwelling’. Famously referred to as “The Scotland of India”, it is a city in the upper reaches of the Kangra Valley, surrounded by dense coniferous forest consisting mainly of stately Deodar cedar trees. Located at an altitude of 4870 feet, it has snow-capped mountain peaks on three sides and valley on one side.

Top attractions in Dharamshala are Dal Lake, Bhagsu Waterfall, The Bhagsunag Temple, The Masroor Rock Cut Temple, Tea Garden, Dharamkot and the Church of St. John.
